He completed his doctoral studies in Educational Psychology at American International College. For over a decade, Bruce was a classroom teacher teaching fourth and fifth grades at Guilford Central School in Southern Vermont, and working with intermediate and middle school students teaching word study and remedial math. Bruce worked with Dr. Louisa Moats to design word study lessons for his diverse students based on the principles of structured language instruction resulting in Spellography, a word study curriculum for intermediate and middle school students. Bruce was also been involved in writing the morphology strand for the Language! Curriculum, and in the revision of Dr. Moat’s text Speech to Print including co-authoring the Speech to Print Workbook. Bruce taught for many years in the Language and Literacy Program at the Reading Institute in Williamstown, MA and at the Greenwood Institute, using Speech to Print as a core text.
