Jodi Alatalo holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master's Degree in Reading from Westfield State University. Jodi earned her Education Specialist Degree from Bay Path University.

Jodi has worked in the field of education for over twenty years. She began her public school career teaching grade 5 at Boland Elementary School in Springfield, then transitioned to Maple School in Easthampton, where she taught grade 4 for 12 years. In 2012, Jodi was awarded the Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award. Jodi began coaching and coordinating literacy across the three elementary schools in her district in 2017.

Currently, Jodi leads the literacy work at the new consolidated PreK-8 Mountain View School in Easthampton. Jodi works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to implement evidence-based literacy practices within a multi-tiered system of support. Jodi leads the Title 1 team of reading specialists who serve students from kindergarten to grade 5 in need of targeted reading and writing instruction and coaches generalists and specialists PreK-5 at MVS.

Last year, Jodi was awarded the Literacy Trailblazer Award from the Reading Circuit for her work in Easthampton. Currently, Jodi was awarded the first Science of Reading Award from Bay Path University. She reports that literacy change happens when there is an unwavering commitment to equity, a clear understanding of tiered support, and, most importantly, a strong, connected team of dedicated professionals.
