Center for Higher Education Leadership & Innovative Practice

The Center for Higher Education Leadership & Innovative Practice (CHELIP) was founded in 2019 in consort with the establishment of the doctorate in Higher Education Leadership & Organizational Studies (HELOS).  Operating as a University-wide learning hub, the Center reports directly to the President and is supported by an advisory board of innovative thinkers within and across the higher education landscape and beyond. 

Higher education is in the midst of significant disruption.  Since its founding in 1897, Bay Path University has been on the forefront in experimenting with ‘next generation’ best teaching and learning practices.  Through student responsive practices that meet compelling market and workplace needs, Bay Path has long been recognized as an innovator in the higher education space.

As Bay Path University’s living laboratory and learning hub for higher education innovation, CHELIP is a natural extension of this mission. 

Center activities include: 

  • Training opportunities in new leadership skills and behavior in order to lead transformation in the 21st Century;
  • Convenings focused on innovative ideas across a range of challenges facing higher education — present and future;
  • Publications that report on and disseminate "breakthroughs" and other higher education innovation best practices;
  • Webinars, seminars, and other forums involving trailblazing practitioners and thinkers, and
  • Applied and action-based research opportunities involving HELOS students and faculty.

Bay Path University's EdD in Higher Education Leadership & Organizational Studies Program Founding Director, Dr. Melissa Morriss-Olson, PhD, just launched her new book, Academic Entrepreneurship: The Art and Science of Creating the Right Academic Programs. The book walks you through strategies for identifying, creating, and growing the right academic programs – both the mindset needed and the practical steps. Included in the book are templates, samples, worksheets, and case studies.
