Profile

An award-winning poet, Professor Richard Murphy is recognized at Bay Path for his student-centered approach to teaching. He brings a full spectrum of writing, publishing, and teaching experience to the classroom.

Professor Murphy began his career at Bradford College, where he served as Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of the Creative Writing Program. At Bradford College, and later on at Emmanuel College, Professor Murphy directed major curricular initiatives in first year writing, writing across the curriculum, literature, and creative writing. Most recently, he taught academic and creative writing at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Professor Murphy earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Boston University. His publishing credits include two books The Apple in the Monkey Tree and Voyeur which won the 2008 Gival Press Poetry Award; five chapbooks, Great Grandfather, Family Secret, Hunting and Pecking, Rescue Lines, and Phoems for Mobile Vices; and essays on poetics, most recently in Journal of Ecocriticism, Reconfigurations: A Journal for Poetics, Poetry / Literature and Culture, and Folly Magazine.
