Message Regarding Events of January 6

Dear Bay Path community,

Yesterday, we witnessed our democracy being assaulted. Decency, compassion, and respect—the very tenets of our humanity—were violated as events unfolded all afternoon and we watched, in great distress, as social justice continued to be threatened. While democracy was restored during the night as Congress fulfilled its Constitutional duty, it has been sorely tested and our need to heal as a nation is imperative.

We are called to come together, to listen, to acknowledge our different perspectives, to be instrumental contributors to the healing process. We are called upon to protect the fragility of our democracy as well as the justice, equity, and inclusiveness that each of us, as diverse individuals, unreservedly deserves.

As a Bay Path community, we must plant our feet firmly in the values we collectively embrace, and move forward with courage and optimism to, as our mission promises, make a lasting difference in the world. Over the next few weeks, we will create opportunities for conversation, and action towards fulfilling this promise.

In the days ahead, I hope that you will take care of yourself emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and be particularly sensitive to those who need support the most. Yes, we have all been tested, and we will continue to be tested, but we will prevail.
