Housing Migrant Families

September 11, 2023

Dear Bay Path Community,

You may have been reading about an appeal made to colleges and universities throughout the Commonwealth in response to the state’s migrant crisis. We want to clarify Bay Path’s position in this matter.

Earlier this summer, Governor Healey declared a state of emergency, and the state issued a broad appeal to colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts, asking for support with housing migrant families on a temporary basis. As an institution grounded in core values that extend opportunities and position those we serve for a richer life and a brighter future, we felt it was our duty to explore this request.

We have approached this matter slowly and deliberately; monitoring campuses and communities across the state that are currently assisting migrants, and as always, deeply considering the impact on our students and our community. After conducting due diligence, we've determined migrant families will not be housed on the Bay Path campus.

As members of the Bay Path community, we wanted to share this exploration and our decision with you prior to sharing it with the wider community.

Sincerely,

Sandra J. Doran, J.D.
