Strategic Planning That's Truly Strategic is part of the Leading Edge Thinking in Higher Education Series brought to you by Bay Path University's Center for Higher Education Leadership & Innovative Practice (CHELIP)


What are strategic plans for, and who are they for? What does it mean to be “strategic”? Amidst such rapid change, how relevant can a plan truly be? These are among the questions addressed in a yearlong study of 108 active college and university strategic plans. Researchers selected 16 strategic plans (of the 108) containing some of the most strategic tendencies and then interviewed presidents of those institutions. Based on the study’s findings and implications, this webinar will outline important leadership considerations to avoid the many pitfalls of strategic planning and ensure a process focused on strategy and outcomes.


The Presenters: Dr. Aimee Hosemann is director of qualitative research and consultant at RHB, a higher education consultancy. She joined RHB in 2020 after a faculty appointment at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. An anthropologist trained in studying the relationships of language, culture and identity in contexts including higher ed, Aimee works across RHB’s practices including creative and research projects, organizational assessment and executive counsel. Dr. Rob Zinkan is vice president for marketing leadership at RHB. Rob joined RHB in 2019 after more than two decades in higher education administration with a focus on reputation enhancement, resource development and the breaking down of organizational silos. He previously spent 17 years at Indiana University in a variety of senior roles from campus-level vice chancellor to system-wide associate vice president.
