Meredith O'Brien G'17, MFA

Instructor: Creative Nonfiction Writing I: Writing About Others; Introduction to the Medical Narrative

Meredith O’Brien is the author of four books: novel, a memoir, and two works of creative nonfiction. She is currently working on a new novel as well as a new creative nonfiction project. Her 2017 book, Mr. Clark’s Big Band: A Year of Laughter, Tears and Jazz in a Middle School Band Room, won an Independent Publishers Award and was a finalist for a ForeWord INDIES award.

Meredith holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from Bay Path University, an MA in political science from American University, and a BA in journalism and political science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her most recent book, Uncomfortably Numb: a memoir about the life-altering diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, informs Meredith’s teaching in our Narrative Medicine Track. A former newspaper journalist and investigative reporter, she also teaches writing and journalism at Northeastern University.
