Janet Stratton is the Program Director for the Reading and Literacy Instruction Program and Reading Specialist Licensure Program at Bay Path University, Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Under Janet’s direction, the program received national accreditation from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) as one of twenty-three programs so recognized in the country. It should also be noted that Bay Path’s program under Janet employs Orton Gillingham Academy Fellow instructors to teach the Orton Gillingham Approach.
 
Prior to joining Bay Path, Janet was the founder and President of The Reading Institute (TRI) a non-profit teacher training center in Williamstown, Massachusetts. TRI trained teachers in the science of reading. Janet developed Reading Specialist and Principal Licensure programs approved by the  Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Janet designed the course syllabi and supervised practicum candidates. In addition, The Reading Institute partnered with Simmons University to offer its Language and Literacy Degree Program and Education Leadership Doctoral Program. TRI also offered courses for continuing education credits featuring nationally renowned educators and trainers. Approximately 1,000 teachers per year participated in TRI’s programs from 1995 – 2022. TRI also offered training and courses in the application of mathematical skills and strategies, assistive technology, and a DESE-approved Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement course. Janet also partnered and consulted with schools and school districts to implement scientific evidence-based practices in assessment, instruction and curriculum combining cognitive, neuroscientific and educational research to meet the needs of all learners
 
Janet Stratton earned her M.Ed. in Reading and Language from Boston University and a BA in Sociology from Marymount College of Fordham University. She worked in the capacity of a classroom teacher, literacy coach and reading specialist prior to founding The Reading Institute.
