Educate. Energize. Inspire. Accenture CEO Bill Green delivers a powerful message.
Educate. Energize. Inspire. With these three words Accenture CEO Bill Green delivered a powerful message to more than 200 business and community leaders, students, and guests at Bay Path’s 7th Annual Innovative Thinking & Entrepreneurship Lecture.
Bill Green’s own story is a testament for everyone—there is talent and potential in many individuals and we just need to tap into and channel that energy. A native of Western Massachusetts, as a young man he was faced with a fork in the road: become a plumber like his father, or go to college. As his father advised him, “You can always be a plumber, but you need to go to college—take a chance.” Green went on to Dean College and then Babson College. Sparked by his classes in economic and business, a new horizon opened up for him. As Mr. Green exhorted the crowd in his talk, “You always need to be looking at the next horizon. One foot should be in today…and the other foot in tomorrow.”
As the head of a global consulting company doing business with countries and companies in all corners of the world, Bill Green has been uniquely positioned through his experience to provide perspective, insight and knowledge in order to succeed in these challenging times. Some of the key messages he shared included:
- Successful companies and organizations have talented people…they focus on attracting, retaining, and mining good people.
- The recession has shifted how we do business—it will never be the same and those who succeed are those who can adapt and embrace change.
- The U.S. faces tremendous challenges from emerging countries. They have the ability to focus and, in many cases, “get the job done.” The have one quality that really differentiates them from the U.S. and may have serious implications: ambition.
His final message: everything we do is global. Every day the world is getting more and more interconnected—it’s the one given for the future for businesses and organizations. WE need to adapt in order to thrive.
