The Fire This Time
02.14.2008
As part of its Kaleidoscope Series, Bay Path College professor John Jarvis will present a lecture and reading from his book The Fire This Time: What it Means to be “Indian” in America Today. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Breck Suite, Wright Hall on the Longmeadow campus.
In his book, Dr. Jarvis profiles Johnny Sarmiento, a 91-year-old Navajo living in Granby, Massachusetts. For years, Mr. Sarmiento rejected his Native American heritage. Over many years, he came to terms with his heritage – embracing and celebrating its rich culture. Dr. Jarvis’s book explores this life-long journey in a thought-provoking and extraordinary account of a Native American living in the modern world.
