Wildcats fall to Terriers

Bay Path College suffered two North Atlantic Conference losses today against the conference’s top ranked Thomas College. The Terriers took game one 8-to-2 and game two 7-to-1 proving they were still top dog in NAC softball action during a beautiful Sunday doubleheader at the Farmlea Rd. Field.
Senior pitcher Nicole Smith (Bucksport, Maine) hurled her way to two victories for the Terriers. Smith dominated the circle improving to a 12-1 overall record. In game one she allowed five hits on two runs fanning eight Wildcats. In the nightcap, Smith gave up only one run on seven hits striking out one batter.
Senior outfielder Tianna Carr (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore shortstop Sara Gates (North Granby, Conn.) were the only wildcats that managed to hit safely in both games. Carr led the way hitting .500 on the day with three hits and one run while Gates had two hits and one RBI.
Sophomore shortstop Trista Morin (Monmouth, Maine) led her team batting .625 for the day going five for eight chipping in two runs on one double and her first homerun on the year. She also produced three RBI’s for the Terriers.
Junior catcher Kristy Clements (Monroe, Maine) also smacked one over the fence for Thomas notching her second homer of the year. She added two hits and two RBI. Three other Terriers hit safely in both games.
Bay Path’s bull pen included sophomore Kristal Cormier (Rochester, NH) who suffered the loss in the opener giving up eight runs on eleven hits with only six runs earned. Cormier (8-6) placed three on base while striking out two batters. Sophomore lefty Jess Nizinski (West Springfield, Mass.) was the losing pitcher of record in the nightcap. Nizinski (11-7) allowed seven runs on ten hits only five earned. She fanned five for the game.
Bay Path is 19-13 on the season and 9-9 in the NAC while Thomas holds on to their top spot with a 12-0 conference record and are 15-8 overall. Bay Path will honor their three seniors on Wednesday, April 23rd at a 3:30 p.m. game time against conference foe Elms College in their final regular season games.
