Vienna Advent Sing

11.19.2007 —Chorale and Page Singers will Perform in the Vienna Advent Sing.

The annual Thanksgiving celebration for 22 Bay Path students, members of the Chorale and Page Singers, will be put on hold as they travel to historic Vienna, Austria to perform in the city’s annual Vienna Advent Sing. Choir Director, Rebecca Phelps, will lead the group, along with accompanist Nathan Newton, while director of performing arts, Li Ciaglo will be providing logistical assistance. This will be the first time that Bay Path has participated in this international event.

Joining choirs from around the world, the Bay Path contingent will spend five days (November 21-26) singing in venues throughout Vienna, a city with a rich cultural and music heritage that claims Mozart, Hayden, and Strauss as its favorite sons. Daily concerts for the Chorale and Page Singers are planned at some of the most magnificent and breathtaking locations in Europe including:

  • The Votive Church, a Gothic masterpiece;
  • The Schonbrunn Palace, home of the Hapsburg dynasty and rulers of the Austo-Hungarian empire;
  • The Melk Abbey, a Benedictine Abbey founded in 1089;
  • And the neo-gothic Rathaus, or City Hall.

Students will also have the opportunity to sample the best of Vienna, including tours of the city and historic sites, coffee and pastries at one of the countless cafes, lunch in the Rathauskeller, and shopping in the Schonbrunn Christmas Market.

Upon returning after this groundbreaking musical tour, the group will be performing at the College’s Winterfest on Wednesday, December 5 in Mills Theatre, Carr Hall.
