Meaghan Fay G'19

Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Like so many Bay Path students, Meaghan Fay had to pay her own way through college. After working her way through the psychology program at Endicott College and earning her undergraduate degree, Meaghan knew she wanted to go back to school to obtain her master’s. But she knew that she’d need a flexible schedule, as she needed to continue to work full time, too.

When she found the master of science in clinical mental health counseling degree offered at Bay Path, she knew she had found the program that would help her reach her dream of helping people.  Simply stated, “I loved it,” Meaghan said. “I knew it was the right program for me.”

Once enrolled, Meaghan began studying at the Bay Path’s Concord campus and found both the professors and her peers to be supportive. Two of her closest friends are from her master’s program, and she admits that she could not have gotten through the daunting coursework and demanding internship program without them. The diversity of her classmates enriched her educational experience as her colleagues came from a variety of backgrounds. This allowed them to have in-depth intellectual discussions from many different perspectives.

For her internship, Meaghan worked as a substance abuse counselor intern/recovery specialist at The Megan House in Lowell, Massachusetts where she attended weekly staff meetings with a clinical team, observed and led goals group and feelings group, and conducted individual therapy sessions with clients.  She also assisted with the filing of clinical paperwork to meet state requirements.

In considering her next professional steps, Meaghan is looking into doctoral programs as she would eventually like to practice mental health counseling in an academic setting. Her advice to potential applicants to Bay Path University is, “Don’t hesitate – this is the best clinical mental health counseling program and it offers amazing internship opportunities. It is unmatched in the area.”

Meaghan graduated this spring with her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She was also honored with the Graduate Psychology Professional Development Award at the Graduate Recognition Ceremony for Bay Path’s Concord and Sturbridge based students.
