Pre-Occupational Therapy Studies
Establish the foundation you need to become an occupational therapist.
The Pre-Occupational Therapy Studies/Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at Bay Path is an intensive, 5-year program that combines a strong liberal arts foundation with professional courses in the theory and practice of occupational therapy.
Occupational therapists enable people of all ages living with injury, illness, or disability to do the things they want and need to do. This is achieved through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations), with the focus on adapting the environment and/or task to fit the person. Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.
The first three years of this program are at the undergraduate level and the last two at the graduate level. Students must meet specific program requirements to advance and continue in the MOT program. Students earn their BA in Pre-Occupational Therapy Studies after year 4, and their MOT after year 5.
Bay Path University’s Occupational Therapy graduates will be able to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).
I chose Bay Path because of its tight-knit community and the genuine compassion of its teachers. The faculty go above and beyond, and my mentor has been an empowering source of support since day one. The small cohort fosters a strong sense of community, enabling one-on-one interactions and personalized learning. The coursework is directly connected to real-world practice, making what we learn meaningful and immediately applicable. My Level I fieldwork gave me hands-on experience planning and leading sessions with children, confirming my aspiration to become a pediatric OT. The accelerated BAMOT program has allowed me to begin graduate coursework early, making my path more efficient and financially beneficial. - Nyla, Pre-Occupational Therapy Studies Major
