Commission commends University’s successful acquisition and integration of Cambridge College, strong financial position, and commitment to continuous improvement

LONGMEADOW, MA – Bay Path University’s accreditation has been extended by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) for the next 10 years.

The decision follows a comprehensive evaluation and marks an important milestone for Bay Path, recognizing the strength of its institutional mission, operations, and commitment to student success. The University’s next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for spring 2036.

NECHE accreditation provides independent assurance that an institution meets established standards for educational quality and institutional effectiveness.

The renewed accreditation is the result of a two-year process of institutional reflection, assessment, and preparation that culminated with NECHE’s visit to Bay Path’s Longmeadow campus last spring. Throughout the process, faculty, staff, and administrators from across Bay Path University and Cambridge College contributed to self-study and evaluations, examining the institution’s strengths, resources, and opportunities for continued growth.

The Commission specifically called out the acquisition and integration of Cambridge College, noting the success the Bay Path had “expanding the University's program portfolio, geographic reach, and student population while preserving its institutional mission centered on access, innovation, and student success.”

During the integration, 99% of students who were enrolled in the most recent academic terms at Cambridge College chose to continue their education at Bay Path.

“Accreditation is about more than meeting established standards. It’s about demonstrating that we have the resources, the people, and the commitment to fulfill our promise to our learners,” said Bay Path’s president, Sandra J. Doran. “Going through the accreditation process while we were in midst of a complex integration was an incredible opportunity to reflect deeply on who we are, what we do well, and the ways we can apply all of that to our vision for the future.”

The accreditation comes at a time of significant change across higher education, as institutions face mounting financial pressures, enrollment challenges, and difficult questions about long-term sustainability. Against this backdrop, accreditation provides an important external perspective on an institution’s educational quality, financial resources, and ability to fulfill its mission.

“Higher education is navigating a period of profound change, and we must prioritize our responsibility to students while we navigate these changes and build a Bay Path that’s ready for the next era,” said Doran. “Earning a 10-year accreditation is evidence of our strength, the thoughtful work we have undertaken to position the institution for the future, and our shared commitment to ensuring that learners continue to have access to the education and opportunities they need to succeed.”
