Shawna Butler is a nurse-attorney, patient safety/risk specialist and nursing/healthcare law educator at the University level. She is passionate about protecting, educating and supporting clinicians in order for them to be ideally situated to provide optimal care to their patients. Direct efforts with providers has an ultimate indirect effect on the patients. She also worked as an informatics analyst implementing the electronic health record (Epic) at Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals. She writes a Legal Awareness column in a Nursing journal. Shawna also continues to practice bedside nursing on an acute care telemetry unit on a per diem basis.
