Juneteenth National Independence Day

Dear Bay Path Community,

Today President Joe Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth National Independence Day as a federal holiday. And in observance of this national holiday, I am pleased to share that Bay Path University will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021.

Juneteenth marks the liberation of enslaved black Americans that took place on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas, when they were finally informed of President Abraham Lincoln's January 1, 1863, Emancipation Proclamation and end of the Civil War.

If you are able, we welcome you to join us and celebrate Juneteenth Friday from 9:30 -11:00 during our previously announced celebration where we will be joined by University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Dr. Shabazz and Bay Path University's Dr. Jordan for a panel discussion about the history and importance of Juneteenth.

As a community, we must continue our work to advance social justice and remain committed to our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Please take this day as an opportunity to reflect, learn from and support one another.

Sincerely,
Sandra J. Doran, JD
President
