Leading Edge Webinar: What is the Future of Online Learning

In this virtual one-hour webinar with a panel of learning design innovative thinkers, leaders, and practitioners. We will consider the status of online learning and the impact of the pandemic era on adaptation for colleges and universities. Topics to be covered include key forces shaping online teaching and learning, trends to watch, institutional planning, capacity, leadership and support issues, and innovative ideas and interventions that are worth considering and watching for.
Panelists:
Dr. Luke Dowden is the Chief Online Learning Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs in the Alamo Colleges District. Through Alamo Colleges Online, he leads and supports capacity-building initiatives at all five colleges so each may gain a greater market share of online learners in their respective service areas. He was named to the Online Learning Consortium 2022 Class of Fellows. He joined the Quality Matters Board of Directors in 2021 and currently serves on its Executive Committee, is a member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Learning Technology Advisory Committee, and is a member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Council for Credential Innovation Leadership.
Dr. Luke Hobson is the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager at MIT xPRO, a Lecturer in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Miami, and the Founder of Instructional Design Institute. He's also the author of the book What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming an Instructional Designer and the host of the Dr. Luke Hobson Podcast and YouTube Channel.
Dave Allen is the Senior Director of Learning Design and Educational Technology at Bay Path University, leading their Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL). With over 20 years of instructional design and leadership experience, Dave has served diverse sectors including consulting, finance, government, healthcare, higher education, home construction, legal services, and personal development. As a dynamic speaker, he delivers engaging and insightful presentations on leveraging technology for transformative education.
Sasha Thackaberry (@sashatberr) is a higher education leader in innovative learning models and the effective use of eLearning systems. In May 2023, she began her current role as the Senior Vice President of Wave at D2L. She has supported teams and grown enrollments across a range of institutions, including as the Vice President of Student and Partner Services at Pearson, as Vice President for Online and Continuing Education at Louisiana State University, and as Assistant Vice President for Academic Technology and New Learning Models at Southern New Hampshire University. She was previously the District Director of eLearning Technologies for the Office of eLearning and Innovation (eLi) at Cuyahoga Community College, responsible for both operational support for eLearning technologies and for innovative learning projects. In that role she led the administration and front end support for Blackboard Learn, as well as other academic technologies. She also led Quality Matters initiatives at Tri-C, including serving as the QM Coordinator. She has consulted for higher education organizations, for corporations in their eLearning efforts, and in the K-12 sector.
Presentations include local, state, and national conferences, general sessions and keynotes, and enjoys writing in the field. Her PhD in Educational Administration - Higher Education is from Kent State University, as is her Masters in the Art of Teaching.
