The Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration (BSHSA) provides a strong preparation for women interested in a career as an administrator or manager of healthcare services and institutions. This degree prepares you to excel in the decision-making processes that create cost-effective delivery of high-quality health care to consumers.
In the program, you are engaged in applied, interactive learning environments that further develop your analytic and critical thinking skills. The core courses engage you in experiences that build your effectiveness as managers and administrators in this field.
This curriculum also prepares you to lead organizations and institutions through the ever-changing regulatory landscape and increasingly complex financial challenges of the global healthcare industry. As a BSHSA graduate, you will apply the latest theories and practices in healthcare organizational structures; strategic planning; finance, funding and reimbursement; legal and regulatory policies; ethical and social issues; human resource management; contemporary healthcare diseases; information technology; and marketing.
If you have an associate’s degrees, or previous coursework and experience, this program gives you the opportunity to quickly earn a bachelor’s degree and allows you to apply 15 credits of previous healthcare or sciences courses to this degree’s healthcare core requirements.
This program is perfect for health service students and professionals, such as licensed practiced nurses, dental hygienists and certified nursing assistants, who are required to finish a bachelor’s degree yet find that their previous college credits do not transfer into management programs.
Health service administrators are responsible for the management of health care operations at facilities like hospitals, physician's offices, diagnostic centers, nursing facilities, government agencies and health insurance companies. They coordinate medical service delivery, oversee staff, manage the budget and insurance billing, and ensure regulatory compliance. Courses cover general business courses, such as accounting and human resource management, as well as major courses, such as health care management and healthcare policy and the law.
