Erica Butcher, PhD

Adjunct Faculty Member

PhD, Ohio University, Mass Communication
MA, Ohio University, International Affairs
BA, The Ohio State University, Human Ecology

Dr. Butcher earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Mass Communications from Ohio University, after earning a Master of Arts in International Relations, with a specialization in Communication and Development. She has been teaching for a number of years in higher education institutions in traditional and non-traditional settings, both domestically and abroad.

Her research interests span the scope of various areas of communications from Interpersonal and Intercultural Communications to Mass Communications/Media Studies and Rhetoric. She strongly advocates for the study of communications as required courses for all majors, given communications relevance to all professions and our daily lives. She contends communication difficulties are often a root cause of issues and conflicts between one individual and another as well as among members of groups. For these reasons, she argues a student's time is never wasted when enrolling in a communication course.
