What a Racket: Women’s Tennis Team Falls in Finals to Regis
WESTON—The momentum from their victory against Lesley University on Wednesday wasn’t enough to serve up a win in the NECC Finals on Saturday against Regis College; the Bay Path women’s tennis team lost 7-2, ending their season with an impressive 10-5 record.
Starting the match-up in doubles, the Regis Pride took a 2-1 lead early on, as Abbie Wehr and Emily Rice aced Symone Watson and Stephanie Morin from the Wildcats 8-0. Following that, Jewel Medeiros and Jessie Lord won out over Bay Path’s Teanna Montoya and Abigail Janneke.
The Wildcats went out fighting: their only point in doubles came from Taylor Wood and Brittany Walsh, as they won 8-5 over Kendall Kolb and Erica Murphy.
For women’s singles it was a day for the Pride. Montoya lost in straight sets to Lord, Walsh fell to Medeiros, and Wood lost out to Erica Murphy to clinch the second straight New England Collegiate Conference title for the Regis Pride women’s tennis. Later in the day, Janneke won another Bay Path point against Melinda Mara in an epic three set, two tiebreak match.
Although the Wildcats didn’t take home the top trophy, there were some individual awards that day. Watson and Janneke were both named to the All-Tournament Singles Team, while an All-Tournament Doubles nod went to the team of Wood and Walsh.
You went all the way, Wildcats. Good job on a great season!
