Ceremony Information

Dr. Carol A. Leary during Bay Path's Commencement 2013

Bay Path College’s 117th Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center Arena, 1277 Main Street, Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. and conclude at approximately 5:30 p.m.


GRADUATION ASSEMBLY:

  • No general rehearsal is scheduled for degree-candidates.
  • Degree candidates are to enter the building through the Convention Center’s main entrance at the corner of Main Street and Falcons Way and report to the Exhibition Hall in the MassMutual Center between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. (no later than 2:00 p.m.) with their cap, pressed gown, and hood to register and receive their seat assignments, honor cords, and processional line-up cards.
  • Marshals will direct degree candidates to their proper place in the processional lines.
  • Degree candidates requiring special seating arrangements or accommodations are asked to contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@baypath.edu prior to Commencement Day to discuss needed services.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND ATTIRE:

  • The Commencement Ceremony is a joyous, but formal academic event. Degree candidates are expected to dress and behave in a professional manner during the ceremony. The College reserves the right to request that unacceptable attire be removed or to exclude any prospective graduate who does not meet acceptable standards of dress or conduct from the ceremony.
  • No food or liquid refreshments are allowed on the Arena floor during the ceremony. 
  • OUT OF RESPECT FOR FELLOW CLASSMATES AND CONSIDERATION FOR THEIR FAMILIES, GRADUATES ARE TO REMAIN SEATED UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF THE CEREMONY. 
  • All electronic devices are to be silenced during the ceremony.
  • For safety concerns, we regret that children and other family members are not permitted on the floor of the Arena prior to, during, or after the Commencement exercises.

CAP AND GOWN ADORNMENT:

  • Cords, sashes or pins representing membership in academic honor societies, recognized and approved by the Bay Path College Provost, may be worn during the Commencement exercises. Honor cords for those earning academic honors will be distributed on Commencement Day, Saturday, May 10, during the registration process at the MassMutual Center. 
  • Personal adornment (i.e., leis, beads, jewelry, taped messages, or flowers) on caps and gowns is not consistent with the spirit of Bay Path College’s Commencement ceremony. Degree candidates who appear at the Commencement ceremony with unapproved adornment may be asked by the Commencement coordinators to remove the adornment from their regalia.

GUEST SEATING:

  • General seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Arena. Tickets are not required.
  • Accessible seating for guests in the Arena is identified on the floor plan. MassMutual staff will assist any person in need, including escorting guests to accessible seating areas. Reservations for accessible seating are not available.
  • Guests will be admitted only at the Box Office entrance on Falcons Way (directly across from the Parking Garage). 
  • Doors will open to the Concourse level and Arena at 2:00 p.m.
  • Refreshments will be available for purchase on the Concourse level.

ACCESSIBILITY:

  • Degree candidates requiring special seating arrangements or accommodations are asked to contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@baypath.edu prior to Commencement Day to discuss needed services.
  • Accessible seating for guests in the Arena is identified on the {floor plan} as red boxes. MassMutual staff will assist any person in need, including escorting guests to accessible seating areas.
  • The MassMutual Center offers drop-off and pick-up areas at the Box Office entrance on Falcons Way for guests requiring mobility assistance.
  • An interpreter for those who are hearing impaired will take part in the ceremony.

DIPLOMA DISTRIBUTION:

  • Diplomas will be distributed to graduates immediately following the Commencement Ceremony in the Exhibition Hall (graduate assembly location). Diploma covers will be presented to graduates during the ceremony as they exit the stage. No diplomas will be distributed until the conclusion of the ceremony.
  • Only those degree candidates who have completed all degree requirements will receive a diploma on Commencement Day. Eligible graduates who do not attend Commencement Exercises on May 10 will have their diplomas mailed to them at their address of record. Graduates who prefer to pick up their diplomas are asked to contact the Registrar at registrar@baypath.edu to make the appropriate arrangements.
  • Graduates are to meet family members and guests in the Concourse level of the Arena following receipt of their diplomas.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS:

  • Photographs will be taken of each graduate as they receive their congratulations from President Carol A. Leary.

  • Photographs will be taken without obligation to purchase
  • Photographs and videos may be taken of graduates during the ceremony only from the seating area. Please be considerate of other guests.
