Emergencies
When an emergency occurs anywhere on campus, remain calm. From any campus phone dial 911 for police assistance. When calling 911, state your name, location of the incident, and a brief description of the nature of the injury or illness. Let Campus Public Safety, all officers are trained as First Responders, at ext. 1225 and the Director of Student Life at ext. 1467 know that you have called 911.
True emergencies:
- Loss of consciousness/ convulsions
- Severe pain
- Severe shortness of breath
- Asthma/ choking
- Chest Pain
- Uncontrollable Bleeding
- Poisoning alcohol/ drug abuse
- Major injury i.e. head, bites, deep lacerations, puncture wounds
- Allergic reactions i.e. insect, food, drinks
- Burns - severe
- Possible broken bones
- Loss of vision
- Diabetic complications
- Severe nausea/ vomiting
Psychological Emergencies:
- Suicide Threat or talk
- Bizarre behavior
- Actions dangerous to others
- Behavior related to persistent drug/ alcohol abuse
Non-Emergencies
- Earaches
- Minor cuts, lacerations
- Sprains
- Minor burn
- Insect sting - If Not Allergic
- Rash (unless related to allergic reaction)
- Fever (less than 101)
- Colds
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Flu
