Coaches
R.J. Toner graduated from St. Joseph’s College of Maine, located in Standish, Maine in 2003. At St. Joe’s he earned a degree in Physical Education with a minor in Teacher Preparation. Toner first began coaching women’s basketball in 1996 at the town level and quickly progressed to the travel level. While in college, Toner developed the Girl’s Travel Basketball program in Windham, Maine, in addition to running many youth basketball clinics. Since graduating from college, Toner has coached in the Nutmeg State Games, Manchester, CT Travel Basketball Association and the Junior Varsity girls soccer, basketball and soccer at Enfield High School from 2003-2007. Coach Toner resides in Manchester, CT and works at Manchester High School in the Special Education Department and is the Assistant Varsity/Junior Varsity Girls softball coach at South Windsor High School. During the summer he is involved with Special Education summer camps and various basketball clinics.
As a coach and educator, Toner likes to set goals for his student athletes that are both motivational and attainable. Through hard work and commitment to basketball, each young athlete Toner interacts with will learn life lessons that extend beyond the basketball court. In his first season as Head Coach, Toner sees great potential for this year’s team to build upon the successes of last season. “With the returning players and the highly anticipated recruits that are joining the team, this year’s team has not only a new face, but potential to really turn heads in our conference.” Toner is working to build a multifaceted and successful women’s basketball program at Bay Path College. In the upcoming year he hopes to help his student athletes reach their full potential in academics and athletics. Coach Toner also plans to increase the team’s involvement in the Bay Path and greater-Springfield communities.
