Biology: Secondary Education Program
The need for teachers in biology/secondary education has never been greater. Fueled by the rapid changes in the scientific field and the demand for skilled and knowledgeable professionals for the growing science and health-based industries, there is a demand for teachers at the middle and high school level who combine the latest in scientific knowledge and procedures.
As a student in the biology/secondary education program, you will follow a course schedule that combines the College’s core requirements (46 credits), as well as the requirements for a biology and an education major. The course sequence has been developed to prepare you for the Biology MTEL, the necessary licensure for teaching at this level.
The College has recently renovated and expanded our science facilities. There are three new multi-use laboratories for chemistry, biotechnology, and forensic science, in addition to a renovated biology laboratory. The facility has been specially designed to foster a learning environment among students that focuses on experimentation, collaboration, and shared discovery—all features that make the field of science exciting and rewarding.
The Biology Secondary Education Program is designed to prepare students to earn an initial license as a biology teacher, grades 8-12. The program is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Students graduating from this program qualify for license equivalency in states outside of Massachusetts once they pass the qualifying exams in those states.
National Science Foundation Scholars Program
Bay Path College is proud to announce the National Science Foundation Scholars Program, a Bay Path scholarship program designed to attract and retain students in the Biology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science or Biology Secondary Education programs. The NSF Scholars Program at Bay Path College will provide academic, scholarship, career and other financial support to undergraduate women who demonstrate academic potential or ability and financial need.
Support will include scholarships ranging from $2,500 - $10,000, research assistantships and work study opportunities, group tutoring, book funding, mentoring by faculty members as well as professional and career development activities. The scholarship is open to prospective first-year and transfer students majoring in the sciences as well as current Bay Path College students. Minority women are encouraged to apply.
