Alyssa Carvalho
While working as a corporate salesperson, Alyssa G. Carvalho decided it was time for her to pursue her undergraduate degree. Bay Path College allowed her the opportunity to attend college, while working full-time, through its innovative One-Day-A-Week Saturday College. The only problem was her major; she was undecided. Alyssa soon realized Bay Path’s Business Program would build upon her skills, enabling her to apply the business, communication, leadership, and technology concepts she learned in her courses to her current career.
“When I graduated from Bay Path my business skills in presentation, communications, public speaking, and team building were polished,” said Alyssa. “Bay Path motivated me to set my professional goals higher by giving me confidence in myself as an employee and as a manager.”
Today, Alyssa is the membership manager for the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, and she recently completed Bay Path’s graduate course Foundations of Non-Profit Management. The coursework was relevant to her involvement in the Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield, which she co-founded and currently serves as president. The Society is for professionals younger than 40, and focuses on business and career development and networking; social and cultural involvement; and community activism through nonprofit organizations and volunteerism. “At Bay Path, I learned the importance of serving your community, and the Society allows young professionals, like me, to develop strong bonds with their neighbors and community."
