Peggielene Bartels - King PeggySpotlight Speech with King Peggy (Afternoon session only)

Peggielene Bartels is a woman who knows firsthand the challenges of being bold. Working as a secretary at the Ghanaian embassy in Washington, D.C., she was informed she had been chosen King of Otuam, a fishing village of 7,000 people in Ghana. Upon arriving for her crowning ceremony, she discovered the dire reality: there was no running water, no doctor, and no high school, and many of the village elders were stealing the town’s funds.

King Peggy’s talk will focus on the challenges she encountered, the bold moves she made to overcome them and how being made king and all being a king entails, has made her a stronger more daring woman. She will show how an important part of her mission as King of Otuam is to bring empowerment to the women her village.
