Congratulations to junior Cristina Ruiz of Waterbury, CT, freshman Sara Costa of Tiverton, RI, and freshman Caitlin Ferland of Vergennes, VT, who were recognized for outstanding play by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for their performances during the week of September 8. Cristina was named Player of the Week in tennis, Sara was Rookie of the Week in tennis, and Caitlin was Rookie of the Week in cross-country.
Cristina went 1-1 on the week at the #6 position defeating MCLA 6-3, 6-0. She also teamed with fellow Rookie of the Week Sara Costa to earn a pair of wins at the #3 doubles spot over Nichols and MCLA. Their #3 doubles tandem was the only win against Nichols, while Bay Path shut out MCLA 9-0. Sara won a hard fought bout against MCLA at the #4 spot 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 while dropping her first singles match against Nichols 7-6, 6-3 at the #5 spot. Caitlin clocked a 23:34.19 time over 5K to earn a top-ten finish at seventh place in the 45-runner field at Sunday’s Castleton State Invitational, tops among all NECC newcomers.
