Emergency Notification System Adopted

Bay Path College is joining the growing ranks of colleges and universities who are adopting an innovative emergency notification system—e2Campus—to instantly send out alerts to the entire campus community. Bay Path is one of the first college’s in the Springfield area to implement this system.
According to Bay Path’s Campus Public Safety Office, the e2Campus system works by sending text-messages to standard communication devices such as cell phones and wireless PDAs independent of the phone service of the recipient. With one click, the Campus Public Safety Office can send out timely information about potential emergencies, snow delays or closings, weather warnings, or other public safety concerns. The benefits to Bay Path and the recipients are enormous. For the College, the e2Campus system allows the Campus Public Safety Office to react quickly and reliably. For students, faculty and staff, the e2Campus system is convenient—you can receive alerts anywhere or anytime, and there can be a flow of accurate information that keeps recipients apprised of situations.
“The e2Campus system is the direction that emergency notifications systems are going in,” states Ken Collamore, director of campus public safety. “Besides being fast and effective, it takes into account how people, particularly students, communicate today. For example, most students use cell phones almost exclusively and always carry their cell phones with them…so text messaging is the appropriate way to communicate. Since we’ve implemented the system, the response and sign-ups have been incredible. It’s a win-win for all of us.”
Bay Path is a four-year private college with an enrollment of over 1600 students at its Longmeadow campuses, and satellite campuses in Sturbridge/Charlton (MA) and Burlington (MA). The College offers undergraduate degrees for women; graduate degrees for men and women; and Bay Path Online, the College’s online center offering graduate degrees and certificates.
