Marcia H. Conrad Awards

04.22.2009 —Bay Path acknowledges more than 50 undergraduates

LONGMEADOW, Mass.—Bay Path College honored more than 50 undergraduates earlier this month during the 4th Annual Marcia H. Conrad Awards Ceremony. Recipients were presented awards and certificates for their academic achievements as well as their involvement in Bay Path clubs and organizations.

Jessica Toner ’11 of South Windsor, CT was presented with the Carol A. Leary Service Award. Named for the College president, the award is given to a student who has dedicated herself to significant volunteer work in the greater Springfield area for no academic credit, while maintaining good academic standing. Toner, who was also recognized for her participation in Bay Path’s Education Club and Golden Z Organization, received the award for her role as resident assistant and her involvement in community and campus organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, New Day Church, and Bay Path basketball team.

The Bay Path College Faculty Award, which is awarded to a senior who represents outstanding scholastic achievement, character and leadership, was bestowed upon Skye Ange-Roland ’09 of Campton, NH. Ange-Roland, who served as one of three Mistresses of Ceremony at the event, received recognition for her involvement in Bay Path’s Anime Club as well as the Student Government Association, which she currently serves as president.

Established in 1994 in memory of Bay Path’s fourth president and the first woman to hold that office, the Jeannette T. Wright Leadership Award is given annually to a sophomore who exhibits leadership excellence in extracurricular activities and good campus citizenship, while maintaining a high grade point average. This year, Laurel Fortier ’11 of Effingham, NH, was honored for her roles as a class officer and resident assistant as well as her involvement in Habitat for Humanity and the New Day Church. Fortier also received acknowledgement for her participation in Bay Path’s Education Club.

This year’s Thomas G. Carr Award was presented to Kristen Elsner ’11 of Providence, RI. Named for Bay Path’s first president, the award is bestowed upon an undergraduate who exhibits academic achievement, character, and service to the college or community that reflect the standards and values at Bay Path. The honor is awarded to a student who is a leader, but works behind-the-scenes on college activities and projects. Elsner was also recognized for her work on Bay Path’s Food Committee.

Lucindy DeLuca ’09, G ’10 of Southwick, MA was honored with the Thomas G. Carr Occupational Therapy Award for displaying exceptional initiative and creativity related to patient/client quality care during classroom and fieldwork experiences.

Sabrina Willard ’09 of Williamsburg, MA was recognized with the John J. Kull Criminal Justice Award for her exemplary behavior throughout her college career. In honor of John J. Kull’s long career in law enforcement, the award is given to an undergraduate who displays the characteristics of an outstanding law enforcement professional.

Raquel Babeu ’09 of North Adams was selected as Bay Path’s Student-Athlete of the Year. The award is given annually to a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship as well as participation in the athletics program. In addition to pursuing her degree in legal studies, Babeu has been named Player of the Year for two consecutive years in tennis conference play. She was also recognized as part of the Bay Path Wildcats tennis team, which received the Sports Team Award. The Sports Team Award is given annually to the Bay Path team with the highest, cumulative grade point average. The tennis team’s cumulative grade point average was 3.690 last fall.

Bay Path also recognized David Wallace, PhD, assistant professor of psychology, with the Dean Marcia H. Conrad Service Award. The award is given annually to a faculty member who has provided outstanding volunteer service as an advisor to a club, class or organization. Dr. Wallace serves as Bay Path’s faculty athletics representative as well as the advisor for the Psychology Club and Gaming Club.
