Certificate of Advanced Paralegal Studies*
The paralegal studies certificate program is for students who have previously received an associate or baccalaureate degree or who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college courses. Courses include litigation, legal research and writing, computer assisted legal research, employment law, business law, and tort law. All legal studies courses stress practical applications of course content and emphasize the importance of legal ethics to the legal profession.
*Approved by the American Bar Association
*A Legal Studies graduate may work as a paralegal only under the supervision of an attorney and is not authorized to engage in the practice of law. The ABA defines a paralegal or legal assistant as "a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible"
