Breakout Session B:

Diane PachterThe Power of Positive Confrontation - A Better Way to Handle Conflict
Barbara Pachter

A workplace without conflict is the ideal situation, but the reality is that most of us have experiences in organizations that are burdened with difficult situations. Rather than ignoring or internalizing these negative interpersonal conflicts there is a better strategy: positive confrontation. Learning to deal with others in a professional and appropriate manner not only contributes to career development, but also has an impact on our personal lives by strengthening our sense of self. By letting our voice be heard we learn who we are, and, in doing so, we gain confidence in our values and sensitivity to others. In this seminar, we will discover how to assess confrontational styles and learn practical step-by-step lessons for dealing with one of the most stressful aspects of human dynamics—difficult situations.

Barbara Pachter is an internationally renowned business etiquette and communications speaker, coach and author. Her 8th book, NewRules@Work: 79 Etiquette Tip, Tools and Techniques to Get Ahead and Stay Ahead, was published by Prentice Hall last year. Pachter has appeared on numerous radio and television programs and her advice on business communications has been featured in dozens of newspapers and magazines, including ABC’s 20/20, The New York Times, CNN’s Anderson Cooper Show, USA Today, and O Magazine.
