Ginny Wilmerding is the author of Smart Women and Small Business: How to Make the Leap from Corporate Careers to the Right Small Enterprise (John Wiley & Sons, October 2006), the ultimate guide for women who want to be their own boss. Written for mid-career women who are looking for entrepreneurial alternatives to the world of big business but aren’t sure where to start, the book offers insight and inspiration from women who have started new ventures, bought small companies, acquired franchises, consulted for or partnered with small business owners, and taken over family businesses.
A small business consultant and small business owner herself, Ginny specializes in strategic business planning and small business turnarounds.
Ginny has negotiated the purchase of small businesses and has professionally authored business plans, private equity placement memorandums, valuation analysis, and business cases. She held senior executive roles at small private enterprises and Internet startups in the Boston area as well as leadership roles at large corporations in the United States and China (Lucent Technologies Inc., AT&T Corp. and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd.). Ginny is a former research associate at Harvard Business School. She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in East Asian Studies in 1991.
Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, she now lives in Brookline, Massachusetts, with her husband and two children.
