Today, organizations within the human-service sector are implementing quality assurance programs to guarantee their clients’ receive the services they need. This Monday, Nov. 1, Bay Path College Executive Director for Academic Operations, Assessment, and Planning Karen Carlson and alumna Judy Curran G’09 offer public-sector leaders insight on navigating the quality assurance journey during It’s About People —The Providers’ Council for Caring Communities 35th Annual Convention & Expo. In their presentation Tools for the Quality Journey, Carlson and Curran offer quality assurance concepts and examples of real-life applications.

Passionate about helping businesses and organizations save money and run efficiently by using best practices, Carlson has led numerous quality initiatives focusing on process improvement, cost-savings, customer satisfaction, performance improvement and strategic planning since 1997. In Tools for the Quality Journey, she discusses specific steps and resources for organizations to start the quality journey, such as funding and organizational effectiveness. In addition, she focuses on organizational readiness for change, the importance of a communication plan, charting, and benchmarking, among other areas.

Demonstrating how these practices can be applied to organizations, Curran shares practical ways she has implemented quality programs at radKIDS, Inc, a national, nonprofit organization. Curran’s quality assurance initiatives ensure successful continuation of the organization’s safety education and violence prevention programs, which build children’s physical skills, awareness of danger, and self-confidence, among other attributes. Curran, whose Bay Path capstone project focused on developing tests, evaluations, and other quality operations for radKIDS, serves as director of communications and special projects for the organization.
