LONGMEADOW, Mass.—Annually, the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative recognizes regional college students and recent alumni who have started their own businesses, with the Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards. This year, the HGCF’s Entrepreneurship Initiative has expanded its honors to present five outstanding business owners with the 2010 Grinspoon, Garvey & Young Entrepreneurship Award. Among the inaugural recipients is Javon Overstreet G’08, a recent graduate of Bay Path College’s Master of Business Administration Program and owner of SecureTek Solutions, LLC, http://www.SecureTekSolutions.com. In addition to this prize, Overstreet received a 2010 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award and a judges’ choice award from the Entrepreneurship Initiative.
Recently launched in Hartford, CT, Overstreet’s SecureTek Solutions provides businesses with temporary staff to manage their technical projects. A full-services technical recruiting firm that supports specific industries, such as aerospace and defense, energy, environmental and architecture, SecureTek Solutions’ competitive advantage is its thorough understanding of the disciplines and positions in the engineering field, and the specific needs of all parties involved in the recruiting life cycle. Overstreet has created a comprehensive sales and recruiting database that contains over 500 contacts, who are the key to his company’s success. The economic changes have meant that many businesses are hiring temporary critical skills staff to manage their technical projects rather than invest in permanent, full-time staff. Overstreet started SecureTek Solutions when he realized there was still an unmet need in the technical staffing services industry.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, both with the Grinspoon, Garvey, and Young Award, the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award and the judges’ choice award, so early in my business venture,” said Overstreet.
With nearly 10 years of experience recruiting for and delivering highly skilled talent for large corporations, Overstreet was encouraged to open SecureTek Solutions, a technical staffing firm. Throughout the years, he has developed strong relationships with companies, such as United Technologies Corporation, Alstom Power, Northeast Utilities and Siemens, while understanding the disciplines and positions in the engineering field and the specific needs of all parties involved in the recruiting life cycle. SecureTek Solutions aims to match companies with qualified, highly skilled technical staff. SecureTek Solutions’ keys to business success are its niche specific industry knowledge, exceptional customer service, timeliness, pricing, flexibility and networking.
Representatives from 12 regional colleges were asked to nominate only two students and/or recent alumni who have started innovative businesses. Bay Path College was the only college to have both nominees—Overstreet and Stacey Bilodeau ’12— receive one of the top five awards. This year’s judges included representatives from Berkshire Bank, Country Bank for Savings, New Alliance Bank, PeoplesBank, The Bank of Western Massachusetts, and United Bank. The Entrepreneurship Initiative is one of several initiatives supported by the philanthropy of Longmeadow, MA resident and businessman, Harold Grinspoon.
