Bay Path Takes NECC Weekly Honors

The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) recently recognized Bay Path College Wildcats Sarah Wright of Canterbury, NH and Jess Nizinski of West Springfield, MA for outstanding play.

Wright, a senior and centerfielder, was selected as the NECC Player of the Week in softball. She led the Wildcats, batting .278 for the first seven games to start the 2009 campaign during their spring break trip. Wright slugged .278 while reaching base in 44% of her at bats. She went 5-for-18 while chipping in three runs and five RBI helping the Wildcats to a 2-5 start. Wright was the driving force in both wins against Baptist 5-1 and Hilbert 10-3, with multiple hits and a combined five RBI performance.

Nizinski, a junior pitcher, received the NECC Pitcher of the Week title as she went 2-2, hurling Bay Path’s two lone victories on their season opening week. She hurled a 3.79 ERA on the week closing three of the four contests, allowing 13 earned runs on 31 hits, fanning 11 and walking only four batters in her 24 innings pitched. Nizinski led the Wildcats offensively batting an amazing .417 and garnered a .533 on base percentage.
