Student-athletes of the Week

09.29.2008

Congratulations to senior Raquel Babeu of North Adams, Mass., and freshmen Sarah Costa of Tiverton, R.I. and Caitlin Ferland of Vergennes, Vt. who were recognized for outstanding play by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for their performances during the week of Sept. 22. Raquel was named Player of the Week in tennis, Sarah was selected Rookie of the Week in tennis for the third week, and Caitlin was chosen Rookie Runner of the Week in cross country.

Raquel returned after an injury to win her #1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 against NECC Mitchell College’s Jennifer Travella. The Wildcats advance to 9-1 on the season and complete the first round of conference play with a 3-0 NECC record.

Sarah, three-time NECC Rookie of the Week, still tops the conference in doubles action with an undefeated record at the #3 spot with partner Cristina Ruiz. Again, the Wildcats went 2-0 for the week, working on a nine-game winning streak. Costa was undefeated in both singles and doubles action. She easily shut-down her opponents St. Joseph College (Connecticut) and NECC foe Mitchell College at #4 in singles and #2 in doubles play.

Caitlin once again received the NECC rookie honor. She helped the Wildcats to a 6th place finish out of 12 teams with a team score of 194 points. Caitlin crossed the finish line in 21:15, the best freshman NECC time, and only three other conference female runners finished faster.

Bay Path’s Wildcats teams are on a roll so watch for more exciting news in weeks to come!
