Student-athletes receive NECC Honors!
Congratulations to junior Julia Bendzin of Poestenkill, NY, freshman Sara Costa of Tiverton, RI, and freshman Nadine Harkless, of Westfield, MA, who were recognized for outstanding play by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for their performances during the week of September 15. Julia was named Player of the Week in tennis, Sara was Rookie of the Week in tennis, and Nadine was Rookie of the Week in volleyball.
Julia led the tennis team to another 3-0 week pushing the Wildcats to a 7-1 overall record. The Wildcats defeated conference opponent Becker, slated the NECC pre-season favorite, 5-4 along with beating Johnson State 7-2 and Russell Sage 5-4. Bendzin went undefeated in singles action for the week including playing position in the #1 and #2 spots. She went 2-1 in doubles action winning both #2 matches with partner Kara Fox.
Sarah, two-time NECC Rookie-of-the-Week, still tops the NECC in doubles action with an undefeated record at the #3 spot with partner Cristina Ruiz. Costa was undefeated in both singles and doubles action. She easily shut-down her opponents at #4, #2 and #3 singles play 6-1, 6-2; 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively.
Nadine helped her team to a 3-2 victory against Ana Maria College. Harkless had 20 kills, 11 digs and four service aces for the Wildcats 1-1 weekly record.
