Elms Blazes Past Bay Path in Volleyball

HOLYOKE, Mass.—In the cross town battle of New England Collegiate Conference teams, Bay Path fell 3-0 to local rival Elms tonight in women’s NCAA Division III volleyball action. The Blazers of Elms easily took all three sets from the Wildcats 25-11, 25-14 and 25-16.

Elms was led by freshman outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) who hit an amazing .588 for the match. She pitched in 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and two service aces. NECC Player of the Week, senior outside hitter Jeannette Nunez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) added nine kills, eight digs and two aces. Nunez had a .412 attack percentage. Freshman opposite Annette Dzidek (Chicopee, Mass.) swung for a .714 hitting percentage on the night.

Junior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, Mass.) dished out 20 assists for the match. She also hit .750 with three kills and defensively had six digs. Fellow freshman setter and outside hitter Jen Rego (Falls River, Mass.) added nine assists, five kills, three digs and four service aces.

Bay Path was led by freshman outside hitter Kenaya King (New Haven, Conn) with a .286 attack percentage. She had seven kills, one ace and one dig. NECC Rookie of the Week, fellow freshman right-side hitter Nadine Harkless (Westfield, Mass.) served up six kills and four digs. Defensively, the Wildcats were led by sophomore libero Davi Chuong (Easthampton, Mass.) with ten digs. Junior setter Stefany Bushey (Chicopee, Mass.) had 10 assists on the night. Bay Path’s lone block solo on the evening came from freshman middle blocker Meghan Golden (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Elms hit .492 for the match while Bay Path only managed a .045 overall attack percentage. The Blazers best set was the first hitting a team .609 attack percentage. The victory came off of 35 kills and 50 points for the Blazers to the Wildcats 20 kills and 23 points for the meeting.

Elms advances to 2-10 on the season and 1-0 in the NECC Bay Path falls to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in conference. The Wildcats will be on the road on Saturday, September 27 th facing two NECC rivals Mitchell and Lesley in a tri-match hosted by the Mariners in New London, Conn.
