PAXTON, Mass.-- The Anna Maria College women’s volleyball team lost a back-and-forth battle to Bay Path College by the score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at The Fuller Activities Center.

From the outset it was apparent that these two teams were evenly matched. It was a seesaw struggle as both teams fought to gain control. Bay Path struck first, taking game one by the score of 25-18, only to see the AMCATS respond by taking the second game by the same score, 25-18. The Wildcats were able to bounce back and take game three, 25-20, but Anna Maria wouldn’t go away, scrapping to take game four 25-17. The tie-breaking fifth game was a microcosm of the entire match. Both teams traded points, as neither side was able to gain control. The intensity built as the game played to a 12-all tie. That’s when freshman Nadine Harkless (Westfield, Mass.) served her third ace to the match to put Bay Path in front 13-12. From that point, the Wildcats were able to complete a 3-0 run to take the fifth and deciding game 15-12, giving them the match in the process three games to two.

Harkless stood out for the Wildcats, recording 16 kills, three aces, and nine digs. Junior Stephanie Bushey (Chicopee, Mass.) chipped in with 29 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Davi Chuong (East Hampton, Mass.) had 18 total digs.

Freshman Marcia McCoy (Hudson, Mass.) led the way for the AMCATS with eight kills and a match-high seven aces. Freshman Nichole Robbie also had an excellent match with a team-high nine kills to go along with 18 digs and two aces, while Junior Brittany Langdeau (Wolcott, Conn.) chipped in with a team-high 33 digs.

The victory was the first of the year for Bay Path, improving to 1-6 on the season. They will look to ride this momentum into their next match when they host Elms College on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. The tough loss drops the AMCATS to 2-5 overall, remaining 0-2 in the TCCC. Anna Maria will try to put an end to a four-game skid when they travel to take on Becker College on Monday at 7pm.
