Bay Path Falls 3-0 against St. Joseph

HOLYOKE, Mass.—The Wildcats of Bay Path hosted the Blue Jays of St. Joseph (Conn.) in their home opener falling 3-0 in NCAA Division III women’s volleyball action. The game scores were 25-12, 25-23 and 25-16.
Bay Path held the lead twice in set one, three times in set two and once in the final set. Despite the Wildcats negative hitting percentage in the second set, the team almost managed to take a game from the Blue Jays.
Leading all scorers was St. Joseph junior outside hitter Catherine Irwin (Barkhamsted, Conn.) with 17.5 points while putting up an impressive .667 attack percentage. Irwin notched 13 kills, four service aces, two digs and one block assist for the match. She was the only player to hit in the double figures. Junior teammate and middle hitter Cayla O’Mara swung for a .583 hitting percentage, She tallied eight kills for 8 points. Sophomore middle reservist Brittany Souza ( Newington, Conn.) added nine kills, one block assist and one dig.
Defensively, the Blue Jays had 21 digs to the Wildcats 15 for the night. Junior libero Kayla LaFountain (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied all players behind the net with six digs for St. Joseph. The Blue Jays’ senior setter Antoinette Marciano (South Windsor, Conn.) chipped in 22 assists and an amazing six service aces.
Bay Path’s sophomore libero Davi Chuong (Easthampton, Mass.)led the field with six digs. At the net for the Wildcats, sophomore middle Dani Turner (Bellow Falls, Conn.) grabbed two block assists. Freshman outside and right side hitter’s Kenaya King (New Haven, Conn.) and Nadine Harkless (Westfield, Mass.) each tallied four kills apiece. Harkless, with a killer jump serve, added one ace, two digs, one block assist and one assist. Junior setter Stephanie Bushey (Chicopee, Mass.) set her way to ten assists and two digs.
Coming off the bench, freshman Michelle Huang (Boston, Mass.) and Chelsie Bonilla (East Hartford, Conn) sliced of a combined four service aces for the Wildcats
St. Joseph is now 3-2 on the season while Bay Path falls to 0-6 overall. Bay Path will be back in action on the road facing Anna Maria on Saturday, September 20th at an 11:00 a.m. match time.
