Wildcats Defeat Albertus Magnus

LONGMEADOW, Mass.---The Wildcats of Bay Path were lead by New England Collegiate Conference’s Player and Rookie of the Week junior Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) and freshman Sara Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) who each shut out their singles opponents 6-0, 6-0. Bay Path came away from the match with a 8-1 win over the Falcons of Albertus Magnus.
Bay Path managed to take all of the singles with senior Raquel Babeu (North Adams, Mass) defeating sophomore Amanda Maurer (Hillsboro, N.H.) 6-4, 6-1 at the #1 singles. In the #2 spot sophomore Lauren Hangasky won 6-2, 6-3 against junior Falcon Kendra Dowen (Middlesex, Vt.). Juniors’ Julia Bendzin (Poetenkill, N.Y.) and Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine) notched victories at the #3 and #5 singles.
Albertus Magnus tandem Maurer and Dowen fought hard to overtake the Wildcats’ duo of Hangasky and Ruiz 9-7. Sophomore local partners Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) and Mallory Wray (West Springfield, Mass.) won their #2 doubles spot 8-3. Junior and Freshman pair Brittnea Frazer (Lanesborough, Mass.) and Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) shut out their opponents in the #3 flight 8-0.
Bay Path is now 2-1 on the season and will be back on the road facing Newbury College in their first NECC match of the season on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m.
