The Newbury College Nighthawks picked up their first home win of the season by defeating the Wildcats of Bay Path College 3-1 this afternoon in Brookline, MA. With the victory the Nighthawks improve to 3-12 (2-1 NECC), while the Wildcats drop to 1-10 (0-4 NECC).
The Nighthawks came out firing on all cylinders and won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-15. The Nighthawks were lead offensively by Felicia Jones (Randolph, MA/Bluehills Regional) who stunned the Wildcats with her serve, picking up 8 aces on the afternoon while Jessica Rossi (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and Captain Kerri McAuley (Middleboro, MA/Sacred Heart) recorded 8 and 7 kills respectively. The Wildcats would not go quietly as they battled back to take a tough third set by a score of 25-23, led by Nadine Harkless (Westfield, MA/Westfield) who had 14 kills and 10 digs in the match.
The Nighthawks went on to defeat the Wildcats in the fourth set sealing their 2nd conference win of the season behind the strong defensive play of Tricia Corriveau (Coventry, RI/Coventry), who had 12 digs throughout the afternoon.
