Wildcats Pluck Nighthawks 8-1

The Wildcats of Bay Path were victorious over New England Collegiate Conference rivals the Newbury Nighthawks 8-1 in NCAA Division III women's tennis action this afternoon continuing their ten-game winning streak. In the final regular season meeting of the conference opponents, Bay Path leads the series 2-0 heading into the conference tournament. 

Bay Path swept the singles action earning all five points. In the #1 singles match, senior Raquel Babeu (North Adams, Mass.), NECC player of the week, defeated junior Jillian Wojtowicz (Palmer, Mass.) 7-5, 6-3. Maroon and White net-woman, junior Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.) shut-down her opponent freshman Kristen Connors (Riverside, R.I.) six-love, six-love. 

In #3 singles action, junior Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine) won 6-3, 6-2 over NECC Player of the Week senior Anna Collins (Hopkinton, Mass.). Freshman Wildcat , three-time NECC Rookie of the Week, Sara Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) proved why she tops the conference winning 6-1, 6-1. Fellow NECC Rookie of the Week, sophomore Elizabeth Valcourt (Grantham, N.H.) fell 6-4, 6-0 against the Wildcats' sophomore Carolina Ynquanzo (Springfield, Mass.). In the final flight, Bay Path's junior Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) easily won her match 6-0, 6-1 from freshman Alysha LaVigne (Nashua, N.H.). 

Tandem pair of Babeu and Ynguanzo defeated Wojtowicz and Connors 8-1 in #1 doubles action. In their only win of the night, Newbury's #2 pair Collins and Valentine overtook Bay Path's partners Bendzin and Fox 8-6. 

The undefeated Wildcat teammates are now 8-0 on the season as they plowed through Newbury's Valcourt and LaVigne 8-0 in the #3 doubles action. 

Bay Path is now 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the NECC, while Newbury falls to .500 in conference at 2-2 and are 5-7 on the season. Bay Path will be back in action on Thursday, October 9th hosting WNEC at 3:30 p.m. while they honor their four-year members in Senior Day festivities.
