Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College women’s soccer team picked up its fourth shut-out in five games, defeating Bay Path College 2-0 at Alumni Field in non-conference action.
Castleton pressured the Wildcats for the entire game, firing 42 shots and taking 18 corner kicks. Bay Path was able to keep the Spartans out of the goal thanks to some solid goal keeping by Samantha Gunseth and a packed defense. Gunseth stopped 13 shots in the first half, and the game was scoreless at intermission.
The Spartans once again were on the attack at the start of the second half, and were able to break through during the 59th minute of play. Sophomore, Kristin Marek set up just outside the 18 yard line for a direct kick, and struck a rocket into the box. The shot was deflected right at Brandy White who was waiting on the near post and was able to finish the play for her first goal of the season. Castleton struck again 15 minutes later as Lindsey Sedore added her first collegiate goal. Courtney Chadburn served a corner kick into the box that Jamie Moore redirected to Sedore who one-touched it past Gunseth.
Castleton keeper, Nakita Baldic stopped the lone shot that came her way to earn the shut out for the 7-4 Spartans. Gunseth finished the afternoon with 23 saves.
Bay Path is at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Thursday, October 9 for a 4:00 pm non-conference game.
