LONGMEADOW, Mass.—The Wildcats of Bay Path improved from their earlier 9-0 loss to only falling 6-0 today against New England Collegiate Conference rival the Becker Hawks in the matter of a three day span. Due to a rescheduling a rain out from September 27th, both teams faced each other both home and away with only a one day break between the matches in NCAA DIII women’s field hockey action.
Sophomore forward Kristal Swiderski (Warren, Mass.) led the way with a hat trick scoring half of the Hawks goals today. Three other Hawks produced points on the scoreboard for Becker.
Swiderski struck first in the 10th minute finding the back of the net off a pass by sophomore midfielder Carolyn Mueller (Glen Ridge, N.J.). This goal would prove to be the eventual game winning shot for Becker. The Hawks struck again in the 23rd minute of play freshman forward Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) scored off a penalty corner. The assist was awarded to freshman forward Nicole Lijani (Moorestown, N.J.).
The next goal was initiated again by Mueller when she passed the ball inside for a shot by junior midfielder Jennifer Ouellette (Merrimack, N.H.). The final goal of the half again came from Swiderski after sophomore defender Carrie Ann Hart (Belfast, Maine) recovered her blocked shot. Hart managed to pass it over to Swiderski to score the fourth goal in the first half.
Swiderski came out of the break on fire finding the back of the net within 45 seconds of play off a pass by Mueller. The final goal came in the 48th minute of play when junior forward and key reservist Katie Schultze (Winchendon, Mass.) scored the sixth and final goal of the match. Teammates’ sophomore Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, Vt.) and Lijani drove the ball up the right side from 50 yards back and effectively made two quick passes inside the circle to record the double assist.
Becker had a total of 30 shots for the game and 24 penalty corners to Bay Path’s none. The Wildcats’ sophomore keeper Kim Amirault (Saugus, Mass.) recorded 16 saves for the game. Two Bay Path defenders also notched a save a piece including junior defender Lauren Czaikowski (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior defender Lindsie Lavin (Feeding Hills, Mass.)
Bay Path falls to both 0-6 overall and in the NECC, while Becker improves to 7-7 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The Wildcats host cross town conference rivals Elms on Saturday, the 18th at an 11:30 a.m. start.
