Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities

All students seeking initial licensure must:
Required Courses and Practicum
All students must complete the following courses and practicum (each course is 3 credits):
SPE 505 Inclusion, Consultation and Collaboration for Meaningful Access to Curriculum
SPE 510 Managing Challenging Behaviors
SPE 515 Laws, IEP’s and Issues for Learners with Special Needs
SPE 520 Learners with Special Needs
SPE 525 Working with Struggling Readers
SPE 530 Curriculum Design and Assessment
Students enroll in one of the following for two semesters:
SPE 558 Practicum – Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 – 12 credits or
SPE 559 Practicum – Moderate Disabilities 5-12 – 12 credits
Electives (6 credits)
Optional Add-on Licenses
- Severe Licensure – Complete two additional three credit courses and a 150 hours practicum in severe disabilities for a total of twelve credits.
- Elementary Teacher – Complete a 6- credit practicum for a total of 150 hours.
- Early Childhood Teacher – Complete a 6-credit practicum for a total of 150 hours. Additional MTEL required.
