MS in Communications and Information ManagementThe MS in Communications and Information Management prepares graduates for positions of responsibility in a range of fields. The degree expands analytical thinking and creativity, and provides the tools for applying that knowledge to a variety of contexts, including applications in information technology, information management, interfaces with human users, support software, communications, business, health care, financial institutions, education, and the design of information for a variety of users and contexts. The degree emphasizes problem-solving, decision making, management skills, and project management rooted in communication and information theory and strategies. This applications-oriented, graduate degree enrolls students with a range of backgrounds and work-experience.

The MS in Communications and Information Management is an accelerated, interdisciplinary degree program for men and women who want to prepare for tomorrow’s communications challenges. The communications and information management program will develop your ability to:

  • Articulate and apply theories and principles of information and communication analysis and design.
  • Analyze, design, implement, maintain, and evaluate problems/solutions in communication and information in business and professional contexts, including information system design, information management, systems management, website design and management, computer network design, professional and technical communication, training and development, advertising, public relations, education, and multimedia design and production.
  • Articulate the interrelatedness of rhetoric and information sciences, especially decision-making, human behavior in institutional settings, and the impact of advances in technology in communications.
  • Adhere to appropriate legal and ethical perspectives as specialists in communications and information management.
  • Apply appropriate research methods to problems in information and communication and evaluate solutions to problems.
  • Understand and apply principles and theories of communication and information in global and cross-cultural contexts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of organizations, including fiduciary matters, as related to communication and information analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, and management.

Accreditation

The MS in Communications and Information Management at Bay Path College is the first program of this type in New England and it is one of the few programs anywhere to comply with the guidelines set by the Joint ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and AIS (Association for Information Systems) Task Force on Graduate IS Curriculum, MSIS 2000: A Model Curriculum and Guidelines for MS Degree Programs in Information Systems (1999). This graduate degree educates professionals to face the demands of the current and future information systems, information technology, and communications employment markets.
