Profile

Mary Walachy has been a faculty member in the graduate program in Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy program since 2007. Since 1997, Walachy has served as the Executive Director for The Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation, a private family foundation located in Springfield, MA. In this role, she provides overall management and foundation direction including development of strategic direction, oversight of administration, development of the proactive funding initiatives, grant proposal review and recommendation, and preparation of Foundation funding guidelines, application process, publications, and communications.

Prior to assuming this role, Walachy was the Executive Director for the Mental Health Association of Greater Springfield. As the chief executive officer of this $4.5 million budget community mental health organization, Walachy was responsible for all aspects of the agency’s administration.

Walachy is a widely sought after community volunteer holding memberships and board directorships with many organizations throughout the Pioneer Valley and Boston. She serves as a member of the board of directors for the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Pioneer Valley, National Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, and the Bank of Western Massachusetts and as a member of the advisory committee for The Nonprofit Finance Fund and the Oral Health Foundation. She is a trustee and member of the coordinating council for the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission—Plan for Progress. In recognition of her significant community contributions, Walachy was selected as the Pioneer Valley Girl Scout Council 2005 Woman of Distinction.

Walachy teaches in the area of grant writing and foundation relations. She earned the M.S.W. with a major in social work administration from the University of Connecticut. Her baccalaureate is in sociology from the University of Massachusetts.
